What is HIFU (High Intensity Focused Ultrasound)

HIFU uses ultrasonic waves to create heat at a deep level in the skin, which damages the skin cells in the targeted areas, causing the body to stimulate repair, by increasing collagen and elastin production. HIFU also heats and shrinks the collagen that already exists, resulting in a dual effect of instant and ongoing skin tightening.

  • Please advise on the cost and treatment times

  • There are no skin care preparations required for HIFU, as the energy is delivered deep to the skin’s surface, but HIFU treatment should be distanced from anti-wrinkle injections by 2 weeks and dermal filler injections by 4-12 weeks.

  • If face lifting is the objective, 1-2 HIFU sessions are recommended, spaced 3 months apart. Your provider will determine this based on the degree of skin sagging. A maintenance treatment may be recommended every 1 to 2 years. When skin tightening is the treatment objective, 3 treatments are recommended, spaced 4 weeks apart, with a maintenance treatment at 6 months if necessary.

  • You should be able to return to your daily activities immediately following the HIFU treatment. Some temporary redness of the skin will fade within an hour or two. The targeted treatment area may be mildly swollen and this normally resolves over the next week. Avoid exposing your skin to extremes temperatures (either heat and cold) and drink lots of water. After treatment, your skin should feel tighter and smoother. Over time, as the collagen builds up, you should notice additional tightening of your skin.

  • HIFU treatment generally has little to no downtime, you can generally return to your daily routine immediately after you leave your provider’s clinic.
